Boutique Hotels New York Collection [launched April 06]

We [heart] New York

James Lohan: “It lives up to the postcard like no other city in the world. It really is that big and I’m mostly excited about the collection as I can now visit and get the best out of the place as it’s definitely what you know when you arrive in NYC if you want to get the hotel address right.”

Tamara Heber-Percy: “Having been to NYC four times, we have always tried to find the best ever cheesecake - this time - we found it. Magnolia Bakery on Bleeker Street - the creamiest, most delicious cheescake you will ever eat and all the sugar you need to help you continue shopping!”

Scott Manson: “Had a great time in New York with the rest of the Smith team. For some reason they didn’t seem too keen to meet up with me EVERY night. Can’t understand it. I mean, it’s not like I was out drinking in late bars till 4am all the time. Oh. On that note, I discovered the perfect hangover food while there. It’s a meatball hero sandwich. Basically, a pizza in a french baguette and available from most of the corner pizza places [try Ray's Pizza if you can find one - there's branches scattered throughout NY]. You’ll need to lie down afterwards, possibly for an hour or two, to allow this molten cheese-and-meat bomb to digest. That’s why it’s great for hangovers - it forces you to back to bed so you avoid that ‘oh God, I feel awful’ moment that always hits you about two hours after getting up. That’s the last thing you want when you’re queuing for the Empire State building or fighting through the sales at Macy’s.

One thing you definitely DON’T want to do when you’re feeling a bit rough is go shopping at Abercrombie and
Fitch on 5th Avenue. Sure it has some great, preppy-ish clothes you can’t get in the UK [if you like that sort of thing] and outrageously good-looking staff but the store is like Dante’s seventh level of hell with a hangover. No windows + incredibly hot + ear-bleeding house music = Scott grabbing the first pair of jeans that look okay and buying them. Obvi they were two sizes too small. Ebay for me then. Had a better shopping experience at Kiehl’s (109 Third Ave; 677 3171) which is in the same downtown store it’s been in since 1851. Apparently, staff members have to give away a set amount of stock for free every day so I walked out with free samples of cleansers, shampoo and shaving cream. Lovely.”
