Research trip to… Provence

We were commenting on a couple who couldn’t keep their hands off each other during dinner (get a room!) in a very classic French hotel restaurant called Colombe d’Or in Saint Paul de Vence (famed because artists such as Miro, Cezanne, Matisse used to exchange their works of art which are still there today for food). Anyway, as they left a little bit tipsy, while we’re no prudes at Smith HQ, but it was putting us quite off our cheese course. So, the next day, who should walk down the stairs to breakfast (yes, yes you’ve guessed it) and sit next to us but the same couple? Zut alors. Thankfully my disapproving stares went unnoticed the night before, as I don’t think they recognised us, and we actually ended up giving them a book (well, who more deserving?) as well as a recommendation for a fantastic hideaway in Châteauneuf du Pape, which I think put our karma back in order, and gave them the perfect setting for some rather more private displays of affection.
