T3 showcase the hotels that will tickle your gadget spot
We’ve begun our global tour of hotels brimming with gadgetry, taking gizmo lodging to filthy gadgetastic extremes. The first in our series of gadget havens is set in the heart of London’s trendy ball-crunching denim-wearing district of Clerkenwell.
The Zetter prides itself as one of London’s chicest hotels, an east-end secret combining quirky, alternative style with classic English colouring and history. Owners Mark Sainsbury and Michael Benyan are self-confessed techno-junkies, they make sure the rooms have a gadget arsenal to cater for all techno fetishes.
Tech salivating begins in the lift, which is powered solely by guests key cards, meaning extra security plus an aura of Bondness. Gadget kudos accelerates as the bus boy informs us there are no mini bars; instead, swipe-card vending machines located on each floor that at the flick of a wrist release an Aladdin’s Cave of treats from cameras, to luxury smellies and even champagne.
The roof top studio deluxe has the feel of a New York loft apartment: cool and cosy, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a patio with stunning views of London’s eye and Gurkin.
In true gadget style the room’s gizmos don’t smack you in the face on entry; instead you have to hunt like a gadget junkie chasing his fix. It doesn’t take long either, starting with the Samsung 32-inch LCD TV and a whopping 4,000 music tracks stored in a hard drive alongside twenty blockbuster films on demand. Oh and of course satellite TV.
Other techno gems include a Pico Revo digital radio and an Altec Lansing iPod dock, plus there is Wi-Fi as standard and a CD/ DVD player. All your multimedia and music needs covered.
The bathroom boasts a rain-dance shower built into the ceiling above the bath. An all-encompassing Amazonian waterfall awaits with luxury Elemis products at the ready to aid your relaxation. Ahh…
The Zetter boasts an array of saucy gadgets amidst a boutique backdrop. For example one can pick from a shelf of second hand Penguin classics, or even use a personal shopper service. A cracking blend of style and technology.
However, the cherry on the sundae is that despite being technologically advanced, the Zetter was built using sustainable materials and is run with energy efficient technologies. For example the air conditioning is powered by water from its own bore hole.
Simply a gadget lover’s gem, both in design and function.
