Inside NYC #2
Posted by Tamara on June 12th, 2008Our second top New York tipster is Heidi Mitchell, editor-in-chief of Town and Country, who’s shared her insights into surviving the city and finding things to do in the summer:
Must see New York’s Battery Maritime Building – where ex-Talking Head David Byrne has turned the entire building into a musical instrument.
Food
Chickalicious – a dessert-only restaurant on 10th Street serving sweet stuff, sushi-style
P*ong –another dessert specialist, this tiny West Village restaurant is home to chef Pichet Ong, the former pastry chef at Spice Market, who blends sweet and savoury flavours with style and panache.
Visit The Victorian Gardens in Central Park – a mini amusement park with a climbing wall and an assortment of rides and games, ideal for kids. Open until September.
Watch The Summer Stage programme of free music concerts and arts performances in Central Park runs from June to August.
See London from the Brooklyn Bridge in real time via artist Paul St George’s ‘Telectroscope’. Hurry – it’s only around until 15 June.
Go Kayaking on the Hudson. It’s free , thanks to a subsidy by the city authorities, and you can kayak all the way around Manhattan and out to Ellis Island.
