Inside NYC #6
Posted by Tamara on June 18th, 2008While we chatted to TIME’s style guru, Paige Reddinger about our plans for Smith in the US (see yesterday’s post), we asked her for her take on the best New York had to offer. Here are her highlights:
Best restaurants Bacaro on Division Street in Chinatown (owned by the same chap as the rustic Tuscan Peasant) is a catacomb-ish underground restaurant serving delicious Italian cuisine. The late opening hours ensure it’s a top celeb hang out too. They don’t take reservations, and getting a table can be a gamble.
Best bar Sister bar of Employees Only, The Beatrice Inn used to be an old speakeasy, which has been refurbished as a semi-private club – if you ain’t on the list, however, you’d better head elsewhere. Small and intimate with great motown music, it’s open until 4am. Like Jen Murphy, Paige is a fan of the Rusty Knot dive bar on the West Side Highway.
Best hotel Paige is another in the long list of fans of the Bowery, for the great rooms and intimate, dark bar and lounge as well as a great outdoor terrace.
Favourite USA destination Paige loves the quaint, forgotten towns of Northwest Florida: Seaside (which lent its scenic setting to the Truman Show), Watercolor and Rosemary Beach.
Paige also told us about a new concept in outdoor dining that got us very excited. More about this in a separate post – and yes, it’s a little more exciting than just ‘having a picnic’.
