Inside NYC #7
Posted by Tamara on June 19th, 2008In a rare gap in our frenetic meeting schedule in New York last week, James and I snuck out for a swift iced coffee on the terrace at the Bowery, where we were delighted to bump into über-blogger, novelist and general style maven Susan Kirschbaum. She’s the brains behind the susank blog, and an authority on fashion, design and celebrity in New York. It’s the kind of blog we’ve genuinely lost hours reading, so we naturally grilled her on her favourite NY institutions:
Best vintage clothing store If you can tear your eyes from the dresses in the window, ring the doorbell at Resurrection on Mott Street (between Prince and Spring) and be ushered in into an emporium of yesteryear’s glamour.
Best shoestore ‘has to be Christian Louboutin‘. The maverick French shoe designer’s creations have graced red carpets the world over, and he has two boutiques in New York, one on Madison Avenue, one on Horatio Street.
Best hotel Gorgeous to look at and even sexier on the inside The Carlyle on East 76th is a Manhattan landmark.
Best cheesecake Sex & the City favourite’s favourite patisserie, the Magnolia Bakery on Bleecker Street. ‘Everyone used to rave about the cupcakes here but actually it’s the cheesecake you should go for,’ says Susan
Best coffee Grounded on Jane Street serves heart-warming organic coffees, a staggering selection of teas, and wraps it all up in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. ‘Try the pumpkin scones in fall – the best ever – and the home made ice cream in the summer. Delightful.’
