Inside NYC #9
Posted by Tamara on June 23rd, 2008Hilary Bowers is one of the most tireless people we’ve met – which is saying something given that we’ve just spent a week in the city that never sleeps. As well as founding fashion megasite Yoox and running her own press agency, Banzai, Hilary also found the time to show us round her home city. Here’s her low-down of what’s hot in NYC:
Best spa The Great Jones Spa (on Great Jones Street, natch) offers a host of scrumptous treatments. Have a treatment costing more than $100 and you’ll get all-day access to the pool and café, perfect for reading the Sunday papers or just checking out of NYC bustle for a while.
Best flowers Banchet Flowers on Washington Street (near Gansevoort Street) is a wonderful floral boutique in the meatpacking district that has a ‘Flower Bar’ where you can sip champagne and be enveloped with the fresh smell of nature. It’s a real oasis. And you can hold parties here too.
Best boutique Nom de Guerre – a hidden boutique on the corner of Broadway and Bleecker Street recognisable only from the stencilled letters on the sidewalk. It focuses on menswear and has some great avant garde brands.
Best Salon Laicale on the corner of Crosby and Broome streets, is a great hair salon boasting the best tunes and head massages – you can lose hours here.
Best restaurant Ed’s Lobster Bar on Lafayette Street is a tiny spot with to-die-for lobster rolls and fresh catches of the day. Pull up a chair at the bar, order a glass of rosé and enjoy a real seaside-dining experience.
Best club Santo’s Party House on Lafayette Street is a brand-new club for the downtown’s cool kids to dance the night away. Well, until 4am, anyhow.
