Will most definitely be heading back to Barcelona for fun and sun sometime soon and will be sure to check out all of your suggestions - thanks!

My two favourite dining experiences of the trip were both casual tapas style places. You can't go wrong sitting at the bar at Cal Pep - the best calamari I've ever had (lightly fried with a dusting of batter and a generous sprinkling of sea salt) went down a treat with a bottle of crisp, cold Albarinho.

And on our last night, we made the waiter palpably nervous with the copious amounts of food ordered by our table of three at Cervesaria Catalana. Note to self... be cool and order a few dishes, followed by a few more, and a few more like the locals next time rather than my over-excited, panicky hunger induced mass ordering which goes something like this "oh-my-god-i'm-starving! We'll have one of those, and those, and those, no two of those, and one of those. Oh and one of these. Please. Gracias. Oh wait, we forgot the boquerones! Waiter!"

Biblioteca is a fantastic little restaurant in town serving very good local food - and the service is spot on. http://www.bibliotecarestaurant.cat/

For a posher eat try L'Orangerie at the Gran Hotel La Florida at the top of Tibidabo. 5 star food and amazing views, with a gorgeous terrace bar for after dinner drinks. http://www.hotellaflorida.com

There's a great bar called La Fira that's in a warehouse full of old carnival equipment. The atmosphere is a little spooky, but also REALLY fun.

Erica's tip about the Lika Lounge is a good one too.
