I was really thrilled to see Linda and Jack Mills on the box. It is years since we last met when I sold socks on Burgess Hill market. I really must congratulate them on their obvious success with the smokehouse and brilliantly conceived menu. Simple but effective!

I am hoping to visit Brighton soon and will look in on them.

Oh no - apparently they are closed for the forseeable future, which is really sad :-(
If you're in Broadstairs, you could try Morelli's ice-cream parlour on the seafront for killer knickerbocker glories, or there's a little deli on Charlotte Street where you can pick up beach-friendly snacks.
Next-door to the deli is a really good independent wine shop called The Bottleneck – pop in and pop open a bottle of something produced on home turf: Biddenden's Gribble Bridge rosé is suitably summery.
On the harbour, there's also a kiosk selling beach classics such as jellied eels, shrimps and whelks.
Hope that helps!

Has anyone been to Crusoes on Tynemouth beach? The beach itself is such a find being so near to Newcastle city centre but Crusoes is fantastic. Open in the morning for coffee and bacon buns and stays open right through till the night where it becomes a bistro.

Just spent a gloriously sunny weekend in Broadstairs and happy to report that Oscar Road Café still as great as ever - a kiwi victoria sponge and Kentish cheese plate with cheese scones sorted me right out after a long walk to Ramsgate and back - might even have to do a blog post so I can share a pic of the bucket of prawns my friends had as it was so tasty and so.. pretty! We also went into a sugar-induced retail frenzy and bought some vintage-style tea trays, local jams and fudge to bring back to London. Happy days!
