Inside London #2: Out of Africa, into Angel

SECRETS FROM OUR INSIDER LONDON ADDRESS BOOK…
At a loose end tonight? Not so unlucky then, despite the date. If you’re staying in London but pining for an African adventure (or a slice of idiosyncratic fun before Valentine’s Day), a Victorian warehouse in Islington might just be the answer. Just remember to dress up.
Say what? Officially, The Double Club is a ‘pop-up art installation that combines Congolese and Western culture for fun-loving London party people’. Unofficially, this temporary restaurant/bar/disco cum art project by Carsten Höller has become the place to be seen by London’s fashion crowd (I spotted designer Giles Deacon and his crew there on Friday dancing underneath the club’s neon palm trees).
Eat, drink, be merry Mourad Mazouz, the destination-dining guru behind London restaurant hotspots Sketch and Momo keeps the beautiful crowd happy with cool tunes and friendly service; hey, it’s not often you get to wash down a freshly barbecued goat kebab with chilled prosecco while listening to classic Wham! tracks in the UK’s capital. If Congolese cuisine doesn’t light your fire, there’s a European bistro menu as well.
Get there before it goes If you need another incentive to go, it’s only here for another three months, so you’ll be able to brag about it all summer if you get in…
Where is it then? The Double Club is at 7 Torrens Street, London EC1V 1NQ (+44 (0)20 7837 2222). It’s open Tuesdays–Saturdays.
Where’s the after-party? Take your partner by the hand and, after a good session on the dancefloor, hole up at stylish city stay The Zetter hotel in Clerkenwell (right); or you could take your party back to that tongue-in-cheek temple of irony, the boutique B&B Rough Luxe in King’s Cross, for a nice long recovery session (aka lie-in).

How come they close after only another three months?

Do you know if you need to be on a guest list? Or how much it is to get in?

Don’t think you have to be on a list, but it might help on the busy nights … try them on info@thedoubleclub.co.uk
