As London Fashion Week gets into full swing this weekend, art-performance-fashion collective House of Blue Eyes’ idiosyncratic creative director Johnny Blue Eyes gives roving Smith stylista Toni Jones his top 10 quirky style tips for the upcoming season. JOHNNY BLUE EYES’ STYLING TIPS
TIP 1
Buy the biggest pair of knickers you can find and wear them over your opaque tights, Lady GaGa style.

Knitwear is big for 2009 so when visiting your grandparents… have tea, eat cake and then quietly steal all their knitting patterns.
TIP 3
Cupcake hats, jet black mourning jewellery, Victorian momento mori broaches; anything a bit Gothic romance with glass eyeballs and crow feathers looks good right now.
TIP 4
Keep up with the lace trend throughout the credit crunch: gather your friends and invest in a lacy body stocking between you. A few hours on a sunbed will have you bang on trend for the whole season.
TIP 5
Mix and match high street and designer: whether it’s high street or high end, Nando’s or Nobu - variety is the spice of life.
TIP 6
Scrape your hair up tight, do smoky tarantula eyes, beige lipstick, cream tights, slingbacks, pencil skirt, chandelier earrings, carrier bag, favourite badge. A little charm and a lot of style is all you need.

Wear hats: hit the nail on the head with colour, colour and more colour.

Use bold statement jewellery to accessorise your whole look from head to killer heels.

I’ve never been a big fan of hats (particularly not on myself), but you can’t go wrong with bold statement jewellery and Kurt Geiger heels.
