Video killed the holiday postcard

Posted by Juliet on March 13th, 2009

Postcards, schmostcards. We say, forget that faff for stamps and address books: capture all your happiest holiday moments on a Flip Video pocket camcorder, and bore everyone back home in full talking technicolour.

Hawksmoor House boutique hotel, Winelands, South AfricaThe clever in-built software lets you create great-looking home movies quick-smart; then you can swiftly upload these online or show friends through your TV. Ahh, just when you thought the slide-projector days of ‘and this is us on the inflatable banana’ were over.

Now here’s one I made earlier… While staying just outside Cape Town at the truly wonderful Hawksmoor House boutique hotel in the Cape Winelands (right), we visited Spier in Stellenbosch. It’s not every day you can stroke a cheetah and hold a baby owl… then have lunch in a treehouse.

Flip video stillThe vineyard is a little touristy, sure, but watching the Xhosa-speaking singers perform in Moyo restaurant is pretty special. And why should everyone back home miss out? So, click here to see the ‘clicking’ there: this was the perfect video postcard for grandparents. Thank you, Flip.

The Small Print: Flip Video Ultra comes in black, silver, orange, pink and is available all over the shop – from Amazon.co.uk, Play.com, Currys, PC World, Firebox.com, iwantoneofthose.com… etc etc. Flip Ultra, £99.99 and Flip Mino, £119.99.
