Need to know, St James's Hotel & Club, London, UKWell I don’t know about where you are, but it is a GORGEOUS day here in London town, so we thought we might try to lure you to our fair capital not only with spring sunshine, jolly daffs and unusually chipper citizens, but with a taster of one of our latest London hotel reviews: rejuvenated men’s club St James’s Hotel & Club in Mayfair. Usually I’d let you discover the name of the anonymous reviewer on the main Mr & Mrs Smith hotel website, but since it’s one of our favourite lifestyle bloggers, Ronda Carman of All the Best, I thought I’d tell you. There.

Every property in hand-picked hotel collection is reviewed anonymously by a real-life couple, so we can make sure every bed is beautiful, every breakfast delectable, and every night romantic (as well as super-stylish).

So: here’s some feedback from Ronda and her Mr Smith after their recent visit to city luxury hotel St James’s in London…

Bond Street, Park Lane, Mayfair… all the most coveted properties on the London Monopoly board line the path to our hotel. St James\'s Hotel & Club in LondonAs a child, you just knew that you were a winner if these cards were in your hand, and as an adult it’s no different. With each passing street and landmark, we realise we’re in for something very special.

Approaching a quiet cul-de-sac just off St James’s Street, we catch our first glimpse of the elegant St James’s Hotel & Club. The red façade of the imposing townhouse seems quite perfect for a romantic weekend away.

As we step inside, friendly faces, warm glowing lights and silk-lined walls greet our arrival. The receptionist shows us to our room, and forgoes the standard room tour (at our request), allowing us to explore the nifty gadgets and opulent surrounds ourselves. Later, though, we realise we should maybe have had her identify the little knob in the bathroom that we never quite figured out…

As well as wordsmithing online, in print, in the press and for Smith TV, Lucy Fennings has been a driving force in making the Smith Travel Blog an award-winner. Mr & Mrs Smith's Group Editor cut her travel teeth early; as daughter of a hotel PR, she visited far-flung flophouses from French châteaux to Ethiopian tukuls. After a year in Dubai (working on Emirates Woman magazine and enjoying the kind of dives that require a wetsuit), Lucy went to Glasgow University to study art, literature and whisky. A stint as production editor at Legalease publishing was spent discovering how to be creative with copy about tax, followed quickly by a stint discovering more interesting things across south-east Asia. When Mr & Mrs Smith found her, Lucy was at Harper’s Bazaar, keeping her finger on fashion’s pulse and sharpening her editorial knife on hapless hotel PR copy.
