Cannes do in Kensal Rise
Posted by Juliet on May 26th, 2009London On Film Festival 2009 launches this June at the Lexi Cinema in NW10, as part of the Mayor’s Story of London Festival.
From Tuesday 16 to Sunday 21 June Chamberlayne Road will give La Croisette a run for its money with film, debate, art, music and live performances for audiences of all ages, including screenings with films made in the neighbourhood and an exhibition of local artwork.
While some of the industry’s glitterati may still be reeling from the fact there were less parties this year in Cannes, we’re rejoicing at this grass-roots celebration of our capital through the silver screen. Especially as these six days also help fund an incredible eco-village in Africa: 100% of the Lexi’s profits goes towards supporting the Sustainability Institute in Stellenbosch.
The two films on opening night, Grove Roots (U) and Russ Henderson: The Pan Man (U) will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, Caribbean food and live jazz.
Tickets to opening night are free, and the 6pm performance is fully booked; but seats are available for the additional 10pm performance. Please email management@thelexicinema.co.uk (fao Maximo) or call 020 8955 1521, stating your name, tickets required and a contact number.
And rather than using those pennies you’ve saved on your tickets to splash out on a Swarovski-studded Union Jack red-carpet dress, why not fork out for a few extra drinks at the bar knowing that your money is going straight to those who need it most?
