Frolics and feasting in Fitzrovia – The Charlotte Street Festival
Posted by Anthony on June 5th, 2009
If you’re out and about in London town this weekend, and, even better, staying in Kit Kemp’s elegant and exuberant Charlotte Street Hotel, then may we politely suggest you lug your shapely booty over to the second Charlotte Street Festival?
On Saturday, the famed Fitzrovia thoroughfare is closing off to traffic and opening up to style-savvy arty-smarties all in the name of a good ol’-fashioned fun-for-all post-war knees-up-Mother-Brown street party to mark the beginning of summer (although looking out of the Smith HQ windows at the grey Chiswick sky, we’re beginning to wonder if that word is altogether apt). The area’s niche boutiques will be flinging open their doors to showcase local crafts and fashion, there’ll be art exhibitions ago-go, and the street market will offer the chance to load up on farm-fresh foods and gourmet goodies.
Adding to the event’s gastro glories, 50 chefs will be tearing themselves away from their kitchens to dish out specially prepared dishes and give cooking demonstrations, and the bars will, of course, be a-flow with liquor. Oh, and we understand there’s to be a giant Scaletrix F1 race track, just to satisfy everyone’s inner dad. Basically, the festival looks like becoming a favourite fixture on the switched-on Londoner’s events calendar, so get yourself down there and just hope it doesn’t rain.
If you need us, we’ll probably be propping up the Charlotte Street hotel bar, gathered round a Pimm’s jug…
The festival runs fron noon to 6pm, Saturday 6 June, but reveleries are expected to continue until well after everyone should have gone to bed…

Looks like it’s going to be a great event. Too bad I’m not in London!
