Good for your environment

Posted by Juliet on June 1st, 2009

Just in time for World Environment Day on 5 June 2009, a new eco decorating company – Paint the Town Green – has landed in London. A member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen, owner Phil Robinson, has coloured the city’s walls for 15 years – and now he’s teaming his skills with environmental savvy.

Jill Starley-Grainger reveals all…

Increasingly concerned about the health effects of paint fumes, Phil tested numerous more natural options to find the most durable and eco-friendly on the market. Many countries have already banned toxic oil-based paints, and the UK is set to do so next year, but even non-oil versions can have harmful vapours.

‘How families and businesses redecorate their house or office will soon become much more of an issue,’ reveals Phil. ‘The rules are changing as to what paints we can use on our walls.’

Having worked with Sarah Beeny, Phil Spencer and other top interior designers, Phil realises it’s crucial to provide a full range of colours to London’s demanding clientele. Paint the Town Green panders to your eco concerns and steps up to sophisticated style-conscious sensibilities, offering all the classic heritage hues and more contemporary tones, and can of course custom mix paints to suit any room.

So, while it’s fantastic to have summer in our sights, an unfortunate side effect of this glorious sunshine pouring in our windows is that it can mean seeing how grubby our walls look. Those smudges and marks might have looked atmospheric when dancing in the shadows of a cosy fire, but now they seem downright dirty. Before splashing on another coat of magnolia, do yourself a favour and consider the green option. Your walls will look – and smell – cleaner than ever.
