There are a few things you can rely on finding at the English seaside: fish ’n’ chips and candyfloss; stocky-legged kiddiwinks with buckets and spades. Less predictable is the weather. And something you really might not expect? A world-class Italian pasticceria – that’s a patisserie, for those in the know. So imagine our delight when [...]

Last night, Mrs Smith dreamed of spices and sultans, of honeyed pastries and perfumed harems, of hammams, baklava and Byzantine domes. In obedience to her every desire, this week we’re Bosphorus-bound, lusting after a wave-lapped, gracious and grand ex-pasha’s mansion in mysterious Istanbul, Turkey. Style: Contemporary Ottoman Setting: Banks of the Bosphorus Why this week? [...]

Who are we to tell you what to listen to in your boudoir? Well, actually… Maybe you’ll trust the tip-offs from the tastemakers we’ve tapped for their top tunes. (If you’ll pardon that torrent of alliterative trilling.) For our brand-new compilation series we’ve come up with the most seductive soundtrack thanks to grilling a few [...]

In our last Postcard from Mallorca, we teamed up with the Balearic-based concierge service Deliciously Sorted and two of their on-isle red-carpet roller-outers, Tor Cooper-Evans and Claire Gauvain from TLC. Normally, these suntanned social butterflies are busy arranging private chefs, jet and boat charter and VIP entry to Ibiza (and now also Mallorca’s) best destinations. [...]

To be fashionable these days, it seems you need to be in pop-up format. Walls, foundations and just plain standing still have become deeply uncool, due to a recent flurry of fold-away activity, from eateries to bars, boutiques to parties. Smith HQ jumped on the (unstable) bandwagon a while ago – we’ve lusted after vintage [...]

What do you get when you put the Smith team, some of our lovely GoldSmith members and a few canapés on the same roof terrace? A shiny, sparkly party, that’s what… Last night, the Smith team donned their frilliest finery and headed to Mayfair’s St James’s Hotel & Club to meet and mingle with some [...]

Yup, it’s that time again. No, not the weekend (though undeniably, ’tis also that), but instead, the moment when we cast our spotlight on this week’s best-in-show hotel. Having waxed lyrical about a cosy Norfolk cottage, a traditional Thames-side inn and a boutique Cotswolds guesthouse, we’re keen to get back to nature at our chosen [...]

It all began with a fabulous Portuguese farmhouse back in July. We’ve since raved about an A-list friendly LA villa, a cosy Norfolk cottage and a traditional Thames-side inn. But we just can’t keep our hotel-loving minds still and now we’re excited about — drum roll, please — a boutique guesthouse in the Cotswolds’ capital, [...]
