Hotel of the Week: No.5 Maddox Street

Posted by Caroline on September 18th, 2009

Earlier this week, the Smith editorial team was whisked around the capital on a mad dash to some of our lovely London hotels. After a lively breakfast at Blakes, a look-in at the Gore’s ecclesiastically elegant bar and a tour through the wonky floors of historic Hazlitt’s (not to mention a celeb spot or two that pushed our standard Chiswick-HQ sightings - Lee from Nineties boy band 911 - out the window), we lingered at No.5 Maddox Street

Why this week? The kind owners are offering reduced rates of £450 (call our travel team to book) on their three-bedroom Bartlett Suite, new on the market. So now you can decamp there to enjoy a slick city pad of your own, minutes from Carnaby Street.

Our favourite bits We love the Big Bar - packed with ‘good’ and ‘bad’ options such as noble organic penne and pasta sauce and naughty Divine chocolate and Jelly Bellies - and the personal grocery shopping service that will fill your cupboards with organic and fair-trade foods. There’s also free access to a private gym on nearby Kingly Street, copies of Time Out in every suite and paraben-free Ren skincare. And the eco-credentials are topped off with the ‘e cloths’ used for cleaning. As much as possible is recycled and everything that can be is fair trade.

Mr & Mrs Smith say “Imagine having your own chic hotel apartment with an all-singing, all-dancing West End and Soho on your doorstep. Then picture your luxury sanctuary as being pindrop-peaceful. Farfetched? Not so, thanks to No.5 Maddox Street’s discreet location and five-star flourishes. The decor of the one-, two-, and three-bed suites is chic and sleek throughout: a soothing beige colour palette is complemented by maddox-mezz1bamboo, lacquered wood and leather trims. If the way to your heart is through your stomach, the user-friendly food-stocked kitchens and array of restaurant delivery services should have you smitten. No request is too outlandish for No.5 Maddox Street’s concierge service and every in-room detail has been considered. Book an aromatherapy massage in the privacy of your suite, and they’ll probably suggest you spark up the aromastone provided with the matching infused oil. Or ask the receptionist to recommend a London itinerary and they’ll have a bespoke tour mapped out in seconds. This must be one of the most caffeinated patches in the world for night owls, culture vultures and action-hungry tourists. In fact, we challenge you to stay at No.5 Maddox Street and not have the time of your life…”
