Loosen your belt for London’s resto fest
Posted by Anthony on October 10th, 2009As summer slowly slips away, the music and alfresco festiv
als have dismantled their seasonal gazebos to make room for the fallen leaves lacing our London streets. But it’ll take more than a chilly autumnal breeze to keep us Smiths from venturing out to savour the gastronomic delights of the very first London Restaurant Festival (8-13 October) that kicked off today under blissful sunny skies.
Tickle tastebuds at the festival’s hub in Covent Garden, and celebrate the capital’s culinary credentials by staying at the Covent Garden Hotel, right at the centre of the swinging London actio
n and a hop and a skip from some of the hundreds of restaurants compiling special menus for this festive foodie cause. You’ll have a chance to feast in all areas of the city, and Smith can sort you out with a suitable boudoir to accompany your gastronomic whims. Don’t miss The Big Roast at Leadenhall Market on Sunday, where you’ll savour a hearty British roast at its best. This bold, flamboyant banquet will be prepared by top London chefs including Mark Hix and Anna Hansen. After stuffing yourselves silly with roast beef and rhubarb crumble, it’s unlikely you’ll want to travel far, so we suggest you drag your (significantly bulkier) booty back to the hips East-End hotel The Zetter, a 10-minute cab ride away, where their cutting-edge design and killer cityscape views will wind your weekend down in style.
