Our favourite bits This terracotta-toned farm fazenda is a taste of wild Bahia, backed by virgin rainforest and fronted by two kilometres of white sand shoreline. There are hiking trails out of the hotel throughout the surrounding mangrove swamps, and a coral reef a short swim from the shore. The towering ceilings and sliding shuttered doors reveal the modern sense of style. We love the salt-water pool, tiled in an invitingly dark shade of green and flanked by wooden sunloungers, and the romantic decked terrace in the restaurant. The eco credentials aren’t half bad, either; an organic garden provides all fruit and veg, and the fish is caught from an ocean nearby.

It’s remote, for one thing, located on the leafy fringe of South Bahia’s rainforest, where the gleaming white sand bar of Corumbau stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean.
