Well, goodness. There we were being crushingly disappointed honoured and humbled to be named runner-up in the Condé Nast Readers Awards, and barely had the champagne bottle gone out with the recycling, when along comes Travolution with a double whammy of gongs.
Mr & Mrs Smith loves a jolly makes a point of attending key events on the travel industry calendar, so we pitched up at Battersea Power Station’s sexy new space, the Boiler House, on Tuesday night for a Travolution’s annual awards evening. If you were here last year, you’ll remember that we were shouting from the rafters about our Best B2C Travel Blog award from the lovely Travolution folk. We were pretty chuffed with that result, but this year we’ve trumped it. After a nail-biting, steak-eating build-up, we were named Best Accommodation-Only Website. The verdict from the illustrious industry bods on the judging panel was:
Judges like the attention to detail in the winning submission in this category, saying they could not find a bad thing to say about it. It was felt the entrant really gets the consumer and that the site was inspirational and easy to use. Judges also liked the innovation and originality of design, good use of photography and the way the site reflected what the product was all about.
That accolade was pretty darn exciting, but it was swiftly followed by an announcement that Mr & Mrs Smith had attained the vertiginous height of Travel Brand of the Year, which would have had us standing on our chairs and whooping for joy were we not such calm and dignified types.
Seriously, we’re overjoyed, so thank you to Travolution for hosting the event, to the judges for picking us, to our members for sticking with us, to our blog readers for indulging us when we come over all smug and award-winning, and to those first 41 UK hotels and B&Bs who made it all happen, back in 2003. Thank you.
