London diary: hunt for glory (and charity, too)
Posted by Sarah on August 3rd, 2011
Got plans this Saturday? Scrap ‘em? Not got plans? We’ve got some for you. Our expert travel team are pretty special. (Hopefully you already know that.) Now, one of them, the lovely Alex, wants you to go on a London treasure hunt with her this weekend. Why? It’s a charitable event that Alex and her friends set up after the loss of a loved one nearly five years ago: the London Charity Treasure Hunt.
As well as raising money for great causes, the hunt looks pretty fun too. Plus, if you’re on the winning team, you could be treated to a dinner for six at the gorgeous Kensington Hotel London’s Aubrey Restaurant. (Thank you, Kensington Hotel.) Like the sound of seared scallops with pea puree, pea shoots, broad bean and tomato broth, and pork belly with mustard mash and Calvados apples? Well – what are you waiting for?
The treasure hunt will kick off at 1pm, with teams gathering at Parsons Green park to collect their clue books. (Bring your camera, and the donation fee: £20 per hunter.) You can register here. This year, proceeds from the day will go to Marie Curie and Sparkes Home Sri Lanka (Macmillan Cancer Support has benefited in previous years).
We’ve saved our favourite bit ’til last. There’s a big party afterwards. Along with a prize-giving, which is where the Aubrey dinner comes in. Past giveaways include: staying in an Irish castle for the weekend, canapé parties for 50, Harrods hampers and VIP tickets to Ascot. Hotel hunters and boredom-banishers? Don’t say we’re not good to you…
PS: Alex will say it all much better than we did. Check-out her charity’s Twitter and Facebook pages for more info, or if you want to donate any other super-duper prizes…
