Soundsuit 2 by Nick Cave - Artspace NYFW event

Get in there: the Artspace NY Fashion Week kick-off event (we’ve got tickets!)

New York Fashion Week event: Artspace and Nick Cave at the Mondrian SoHoLook sharp: New York Fashion Week works up a head of steam next week, and you could be there – we’ve only gone and got you two exclusive pairs of tickets to Artspace‘s groovy fashion week launch event. Read on for full event details (and find out how to get your mitts on those invites)…

Artspace – a clever company making contemporary art, illustration and photography accessible (and affordable) to you, eager public, via its website and private sales – is hosting a super-stylish cocktail evening on Friday 9 September in honor of the artist Nick Cave (no, not he of the Bad Seeds. He of performance art/wear). An appropriate choice for fashion week, one of Nick’s fortes is ‘fabric sculpture’ (make of that what you will, but we read it as ‘totally radical outerwear’) and performance-art costume (he’s also a trained dancer). He’s been described as ‘Alexander McQueen meets Andy Warhol’.

Soundsuit 2 by Nick Cave - Artspace NYFW eventNick will be introducing two new works at the event, which will unfold on the rooftop of the Mondrian SoHo hotel in New York on the first Friday of fashion week (so fashionable movers and shakers will be yours to behold in more ways than one).

Other artists supported by Artspace (and they are many and varied) include Brit painter Peter Doig, Turner Prize-winner Chris Ofili, photographer Edward Burtynsky and rising star Curtis Mann.

ArtspaceYou’ll be automatically entered into the ticket sweepstakes when you sign up to become an Artspace member (this is free, and it only takes a few seconds). Artspace members get a heads up on affordable contemporary art, canny tips and first options on very limited editions through the site’s private sales. Whoo!

As well as wordsmithing online, in print, in the press and for Smith TV, Lucy Fennings has been a driving force in making the Smith Travel Blog an award-winner. Mr & Mrs Smith's Group Editor cut her travel teeth early; as daughter of a hotel PR, she visited far-flung flophouses from French châteaux to Ethiopian tukuls. After a year in Dubai (working on Emirates Woman magazine and enjoying the kind of dives that require a wetsuit), Lucy went to Glasgow University to study art, literature and whisky. A stint as production editor at Legalease publishing was spent discovering how to be creative with copy about tax, followed quickly by a stint discovering more interesting things across south-east Asia. When Mr & Mrs Smith found her, Lucy was at Harper’s Bazaar, keeping her finger on fashion’s pulse and sharpening her editorial knife on hapless hotel PR copy.
