Juliet Kinsman: When I was told our second show would…
We’ve sprung into action this spring, with a host of April additions to our handpicked hotel collection. First, we enjoyed the Andaman Sea views from the glamorous Paresa Hotel in Phuket, whose name means ‘heaven of the heavens’ in Sanskrit. Then we admired the modern design at the sleekly stylish Chedi Chiang Mai, dressed up to the nines at the fashion-conscious Hotel Penaga in Penang (above right) and relaxed at the understated but luxurious Taveuni Palms hotel in Fiji (above left).
Back in Europe, we got inspired by our first boho bolthole in Budapest, Brody House hotel (right) – every room features works by a different artist, some local and some international. In London, we lounged at the intimate Orange pub with rooms in Belgravia. Then, we headed down under to Kyneton, Australia, where we discovered Mollisons hotel, a designer den in a former bank, and the French-influenced pied-à-terre Circa 1860.
Over in the Americas, we hung with hip Hawaiians at the Modern Honolulu hotel. Back on the mainland in Los Angeles, we pretended to be movie stars of yesteryear in the clutch of cottages that makes up the Charlie hotel in West Hollywood (below) – it’s Charlie Chaplin’s one-time home, and former guests include Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, Bette Davis and Clark Gable.
After surveying the jungle from our Yucatán Peninsula hideway, Coqui Coqui Coba in Mexico, we headed down to find out very first hotels in Costa Rica: we explored the rainforest from Oxygen Jungle Villas Hotel, befriended howler monkeys at beachside surf retreat the Harmony Hotel and bathed in waterfalls at eco-friendly tropical paradise El Silencio Lodge & Spa.
Check back in May for new Smith hotels in Australia, Fiji, Thailand, India, Italy, Spain, Dorset, Chicago, New York, Peru and Jamaica.
