Why this week? Enjoy four nights for the price of three with our new Song Saa hotel offer, launched this week, if you book before 31 October. You’ll also get all meals, a private in-villa barbecue and one indulgent 60- or 90- minute spa treatment each. Time your trip around one of the monthly Full Moon Parties on the island, with cocktails, tasting menus and DJs.
Our favourite bits This pair of isles (Song Saa means ‘sweethearts’ in Khmer) in the Koh Rong Islands delivers ultra-luxe lodgings (above) with enviable green credentials, including a local marine reserve created by the hotel. Dotted across the larger island are 27 jungle-shrouded villas and overwater abodes. Watersports, fine wines and fabulous mod-Khmer food, from a chef who’s served the likes of David Beckham and the King of Spain, are included in the room rate.
Take a snorkelling tour to ogle the reefs and rainbow-hued fish of this protected pocket of ocean, or kayak around the archipelago, stopping off for a lazy picnic lunch on a deserted island. By night, don’t miss the bioluminescence swim – a speedboat will whisk you out to splash in the sparkling waters.
Mr & Mrs Smith say… ‘Our Overwater Villa has a private infinity pool, with steps down to the sea and an inviting white cabana; there’s red and white wine and three types of beer (as chosen in our pre-arrival form); and there are four beautifully presented dishes, including freshly shucked oysters and a charcuterie plate. The pungent, creamy Livarot in the cheese platter is so good that it almost distracts me from a naked Mrs Smith sipping sparkling rosé in the pool. Such is life at Song Saa.
The promise of an exfoliating foot ritual at the spa draws us out of the room, followed by dinner at the beautiful overwater restaurant, where the only sound is the sporadic splash of flying fish.’ Read the full Song Saa review here.
