New for November: Smith hotels in Costa Rica, South Australia, Tuscany, Thailand and beyond…

Finca Rosa Blanca, Costa Rica
During this month’s search for sparkly new Smith hotels, there were two words on our lips: Costa Rica. We played ‘I Spy’ (the sea) at Latitude 10‘s bohemian beachfront casitas on the Nicoya Peninsula, developed a design crush at Kurá‘s minimalist jungle bungalows in Uvita, played Tarzan and Jane at Lapa Rios‘ tropical treehouses on the Osa Peninsula and got coffee-drunk at Finca Rosa Blanca‘s eccentric eco-inn (above) in San José.

In Europe, we followed in the shapely footsteps of Sophia Loren and hopped into bed at Castello di Casole in scenic Tuscany, before donning swimwear for Anemi Hotel: a bright white hideaway overlooking the Aegean.

Legends Resort, Moorea, French PolynesiaOver in Thailand, we woke up in Phulay Bay‘s grand villas and admired Krabi’s beauty. In French Polynesia, Legends Resort – a 17-acre estate with its own mini island – caught our eye (right). Finally, we fell for four new South Australian finds: hip Clarion Hotel Soho in Adelaide; bookish Thorn Park by the Vines in Clare Valley, Asia-influenced The Australasian Circa 1858 on the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kingsford Homestead, a grand estate in Barossa Valley.

Weeks before first joining Mr & Mrs Smith's editorial team as assistant editor, Sarah Jappy was interviewing hot blondes in Copenhagen for a city guide. Having penned food porn for Blue Tomato and fashion features at Itchy City Guides, Sarah was delighted to bring an appetite for alliteration and expert opinion on hot topics including: the marzipan to pastry ratio of the perfect almond croissant; which shop-bought hollandaise sauce generates the best eggs benedict and where to source the capital’s most drool-worthy moules marinière. That's not to even mention her 12 years of Irish dancing prowess. She has now moved Down Under to head up Smith's Melbourne editorial team.
