As St Valentine briefly flitted in and out this week, we were reminded that one day dedicated to romance simply isn’t enough. So, why not extend the affair at a spot designed with passion in mind – luxury boutique Faena Hotel in sultry Buenos Aires?

Why this week? Even if you came through with flowers and a heart-shaped box of chocolates, nothing shows you mean it quite like a sexy escape. Especially one that involves tango lessons from local experts, a soothing spa with couples’ soaking tub and shamelessly romantic rooms. If that still doesn’t tempt you, perhaps this Smith perk will: 10 per cent off room rates for stays of two nights or more before 23 December.
Our favourite bits This ruby-red riverfront palace designed by Philippe Starck occupies a converted granary with soaring ceilings and prime city views. Inside, the hotel is an art-inspired homage to Argentina, including the spacious rooms with antique furnishings, Philippe Starck pieces, dramatic beds and marble en suites. The hotel is also home to a Twenties inspired cabaret hosting tango shows and cocktails, a spa with an array of restorative treatments, and truly fine dining – in particular the steaks, which set a new Argentinean standard.
Mr & Mrs Smith say ‘There’s a reason that Faena’s full name is Faena Hotel + Universe: this hotel has a lot to offer. Guests could spend a week at Faena, feeling like royalty in the pool – a fantasy aided by the massive gilded-crown fountain in the centre – or just taking advantage of endless massages, thanks to the flat-rate spa, which offers a lengthy slew of chakra treatments, botanical facials and a eucalyptus-fragranced hammam. Faena has the glamour of another era, one of whimsical art, afternoon salons in the Library Lounge and dramatic flourishes at every turn. Welcome to the Faena universe.’ Read the full Faena Hotel review.
