This month, we escaped to some dreamy island getaways, including U Palazzu Serenu, a hillside haven in Corsica; The Bulgari Resort, an Italian-inspired designer-den in Bali; and  Soneva Kiri, a family-friendly beach resort on Koh Kood.

In the Dominican Republic, a rainforest eco-retreat named Casa Bonita caught our eye, along with the chic shoreside casitas of Sublime Samana (below right); in St Lucia, chocolate-loving jungle lodge Boucan by Hotel Chocolat (above) whetted our appetite. Then, we fell for the lagoon idyll of Vahine Island in French Polynesia.

Rural temptations beckoned at a La Maison d’Ulysse, a fortified farmhouse in southern France. After all that relaxation, we were more than ready to be seduced by some urban thrills, too, supplied by spa-toting Exeter sanctuary The Magdalen Chapter in the UK and Faena Hotel, an arty Buenos Aires beauty in Argentina.
