We rather love The New York Times’ T magazine over here in Smith HQ. So I was honoured when they asked me to write some posts for their blog, The Moment. In the first post, I chew over that beloved of Mr & Mrs Smith boutique-travel topics, weekending – which to us, is boutique travel [...]

Apparently Victoria Beckham has been asked to design a hotel in Dubai. We loved The Guardian‘s Lucy Mangan’s entertaining article If Posh Spice can design a hotel, why can’t I? published last Saturday. Lucy Mangan reviewed the Bull Hotel in Dorset for Mr & Mrs Smith.

After our Caribbean jaunt last week, Smith’s Hotel of the week team is turning its attention to Denmark’s cultured capital, Copenhagen, to admire that doyenne of design dens, Avenue Hotel… Style Couture comforts Setting Green, historic Fredericksburg Why this week? A sparkling wintry wonderland, Copenhagen’s one of the best destinations to spend the run-up to [...]

If you haven’t yet seen the work of hip homewares-customiser Lou Rota… well, you should. Lou forages for cast-off crockery and furniture, reinvents it using collage, découpage and a healthy dose of imagination, and produces some of the most intriguing eco-chic artworks around today. Plastic stacking chairs are given fabulous floral makeovers and chintz-patterned china [...]

Jelly. A curious entity – reminiscent of school days, lumpy custard and Seventies trifles. Many would agree it’s an unlikely object of passion. Not Bompas & Parr, the oddballs behind the Horseless Carriage of Curiosities, Flavour Tripping and the breathable cocktail. Their slippery creations include wobbly wedding cake-alternatives for adventurous brides, alcoholic stars for Courvoisier, [...]

No one has her fingers wrapped quite so tightly around the London fashion pulse as Smith’s roving stylista Toni Jones. Here’s her latest despatch from the front line… Barbed wire is the latest precious metal. The prickly sheep-snaggler synonymous with prison blocks and Pammy Anderson is an unlikely style hero, but Burberry’s new barbed-wire jewellery [...]

The Romans, Moors and Crusaders have long left Lisbon, and what they’ve left is a hillside city brimming with culture, character and cool. From the Moorish Alfama district to the bustle of Baixa, every pocket of Portugal’s capital has its own treasures to offer the savvy traveller. We’ve gambolled in the gardens and mused over [...]

Of all the fabulous finery that billowed and swished its way down the catwalk at London Fashion Week 2009, Smith HQ fell hardest for Erdem‘s whimsical watercolour dresses. In particular, the demure and divine ankle-length silk gowns with their daubs of jewel-bright colour, available from Net-a-Porter – well, before they (predictably) sold out that is. [...]

You know what you like to buy and you’re no sucker for marketing… Do you shun the red sale stickers on discounted produce at the supermarket? Do you laugh in the face of Bogof offers in Boots, resisting the urge to hoard toothpaste for the sake of a pound or so? Well, this is one [...]

It all began with a fabulous Portuguese farmhouse back in July. We’ve since raved about an A-list friendly LA villa, a cosy Norfolk cottage and a traditional Thames-side inn. But we just can’t keep our hotel-loving minds still and now we’re excited about — drum roll, please — a boutique guesthouse in the Cotswolds’ capital, [...]
