This week, a whistlestopping troupe of Alila executives whirled into London to tell all about this boutique super brand and its plans for design domination…
Dedicated users of this website will be familiar with hotel-of-the-week-scooping Alila Villas Uluwatu in Bali, where clifftop cabanas edge up to the Indian Ocean. The brand is also responsible for the amazing Alila Ubud, a volcano-flanked boutique hilltop of a resort.
Alila spilled the beans on their brand basics: we learned that ‘alila’ means ‘surprise’ in Sanskrit, that they like to keep things local (staff, cuisine, culture, etc), that they are big environment fans, and that you get a lengthy questionnaire (pillow, iPod tracks, etc) to fill out before you arrive. Fancy feeling like Mariah Carey, anyone?
Hot on the heels of our Luang Prabang destination guide (we love leading the way), the company has plans for a Laos launch this October. And they’ve even got plans to expand in Europe, bringing the Continent a little Asian hospitality.
