Nothing puts a spring in one’s step more than the prospect of a sunny holiday: here’s something for summer 2013. Like lazing by a pool and eating langoustines? You’ll love our hotel of the week…

Anemi Hotel, Folegandros, GreeceStyle Clifftop minimalist luxury
Unspoilt Aegean island

Why this week? Why ever not? Anemi Hotel is one of our shiny new hotel starlets, having only joined the collection in November. It’s also the perfect coastal antidote to January blues, promising sunshine, sea and succulent seafood. Think of Folegandros as the new Santorini, without the holidaying hoards. As further persuasion, there’s an Anemi Hotel offer to take advantage of: advance bookings can claim 10 per cent off stays in high season…

Our favourite bits First up, the architecture is eye-wideningly pretty: the buildings look, from a distance, like giant sugar cubes perched precariously on the edge of the cliff, overlooking the turquoise Aegean. We love the restaurant, a slick space decorated in dark shades, where you can enjoy innovative dishes inspired by Aegean island favourites, such as orzo with langoustines and lemon zest. When it comes to sleeping quarters, we want to bed down in the spacious Junior Pool Suites – honeymooners’ heaven. There’s a large bedroom and separate living room, and you can lounge in your private pool while admiring your sweeping sea views.

Mr & Mrs Smith say: ‘If you’re seeking a relatively unspoilt alternative to bustling Santorini, try its small sister island Folegandros: the quiet Aegean outpost, less than an hour from Santorini by catamaran, is a perfect place to unwind. As for where to stay, five minutes from the port is the laid-back but luxurious Anemi Hotel.

The welcome is warm and traditionally Greek (like the island itself) and staff have that amazing knack of being invisible when you want them to be, then suddenly appearing as soon as you need them. It’s not just the people that make Anemi Hotel amazing, either: from the expansive Aegean vistas right down to the stylish furniture (Eames chairs abound) Anemi Hotel is endlessly easy on the eye. Whether you spend the day relaxing in your suite or exploring the island, watching the sun set over the sea from your lounger by the clifftop pool (mojito with fresh-picked mint in hand) is a spectacular way to start the night.’
