Boutique retreat Anemi Hotel is perched on the east coast of Santorini’s sister island, the quiet and less touristy Folegandros. From a distance, the pearly white buildings look like a jumble of giant sugar-cubes, but up close you’ll find a design-conscious hideaway with an infinity pool that really does seem to go on forever.
STYLE MINIMALIST SHORE-SIDE LUXURY
SETTING UNSPOILT AEGEAN ISLAND
WHY THIS WEEK?
The Greek summer is sizzling like a kofte on a grill, but this is one August hotspot that isn’t overrun with tourist hordes. Take advantage while the sands are warm and the views peaceful.
OUR FAVOURITE BITS
People come here for the mesmerising scenery and unspoilt beaches. Anemi Hotel has Aegean views that could inspire a few lines of verse, and a large infinity pool to scribble them by, plus a separate pool for kids. And beyond the white-as-a-vicar’s-collar exterior of the hotel, the interiors are modern and minimalist, with splashes of colour.
MR & MRS SMITH SAY…
‘”Nothing,” the receptionist smiles at us, knowingly. We’ve just arrived at Anemi Hotel and have asked what there is to do on the 32-square-mile island of Folegandros. I smile back, confused, and then look at Mr Smith nervously. I don’t know what to do with this information. I’m not one for doing nothing. I live in London! I work on a newspaper! Every day represents a deadline for getting out there, conquering the world, pulling oneself up another rung. I can’t do nothing. And not for 48 hours. But that’s just what we do. And what a place to (not) do it in.’ Read more of our anonymous review here.
‘This is a beautifully presented hotel with sleek design and excellent amenities. The breakfast options are extensive. There are also a number of very secluded, beautiful beaches within walking distance.’ David, BlackSmith, stayed September 2014
