We’re not the sort that likes to sing our own praises (ok, we are, a bit), but we’d like to ask you to raise a glass of virtual prosecco in honour of our shiniest new gong: Best Travel Guide.

Best Travel Guide - Italy book scoops award for Mr & Mrs SmithOur Italy guidebook – the most recent addition to the Smith travel bookshelf – scooped the prize at the fifth annual Italian Tourist Board Travel Writing Awards; Editor-in-chief Juliet Kinsman and PR head Aline Keuroghlian (pictured left) attended the event last Tuesday to accept the award.

Alessandra Smith (no relation), from the Italian Tourist Board, had these kind words to say (for full effect, imagine her saying this with flamboyantly rolled Rs):

Mr & Mrs Smith Hotel Collection: Italy is more than a collection of stunning hotels and properties: it is a beautiful coffee-table book illustrated by eye-catching photographs that capture the essence of the places, and a useful tool to plan your holiday as it provides information on the destinations and regions with precise practical details such as how to reach places, climate, shopping and entertainment, lists of airports with contact details, local knowledge and even recommended reading on the different areas.’

Best Travel Guide – Mr & Mrs Smith Hotel Collection: Italy

With each book, we’ve tried to go the extra mile (boom boom) to bring you beautiful places to stay, insider travel tips on everything from the most romantic views and rewarding walks to ‘How to’ guides on picking the perfect pasta and understanding Italian opera. Huge salutes to the many team members who worked so hard, scouring Italy for remarkable hotels, creating striking photography, writing evocative editorial and gathering entertaining reports from our best-ever array of style-spotting hotel spies.

Immodesty Blaize – hotel review for SmithAnd of course mille grazie to the fantastic Mr & Mrs Smiths who reported back with their bedtime stories, including designers Erdem and Martha Freud, chef Stefano Manfredi, burlesque beauty Immodesty Blaize (left), Queen of Shops Mary Portas, cultural commentator Stephen Bayley, comedians Rufus Hound and Chris Cox, musician Jack Peñate, ad man Oli Beale, artists Natasha Law and Quentin Jones, Zeitgeist channellers Alex Tieghi-Walker, Michelle Ogundehin and Teo van den Broeke… Our book (and its launch party) wouldn’t have been such a corker without everyone’s contributions.

It’s nice to turn our attention to more pressing matters: how to rearrange our cabinet now there’s another trophy (Smug Alert!) to go beside Best Website and Travel Brand of the Year, among others.

Not familiar with our work? Tsk, tsk: treat yourself to a copy of our Italy book online from the Smith gift shop (and have a wander round our world while you’re there)
