When it comes to nabbing the best Mediterranean escapes, it pays to plan ahead. Just off the strikingly pretty Puglian coast, Borgo Egnazia has us aching to get our diaries out…
STYLE Fairy-tale village resort
SETTING Shore-side olive groves
Why this week? If, like us, you’ve been lusting all winter for clear skies and warm seas, the first signs of spring are bound to trigger an uncontrollable desire to book a beach holiday. We prescribe a spot of Puglian pampering: Borgo Egnazia is offering 20 per cent off stays booked by 28 February (excluding July and August).
Our favourite bits Right on the Adriatic’s doorstep, this sprawling resort has all the airs of a traditional village – albeit one with four pools, three fabulous restaurants and a Roman-inspired spa. The impressive facilities and nearby beach make Borgo Egnazia a firm favourite for child-friendly holidays, but there’s plenty of scope for romantic retreats, too. Dressed in a palette of soul-soothing whites, the Egnathia Suite’s private garden, fireplace and outdoor plunge pool tick all the right boxes for loved-up peace-seekers.
Mr & Mrs Smith say… ‘A great deal of thought has gone into keeping guests from boredom. If you’re not content with the golf course outside your bedroom or the Adriatic just on your doorstep, there are mozzarella tastings, cookery classes, museum visits and windsurfing lessons to take part in. Working out what to do here isn’t the problem; working out how to pack it all into one holiday is.’ Read the full anonymous review by DJ Rob da Bank.
You say… ‘The pale palette relaxes you as soon as you enter. The service was first class and the staff very friendly and helpful. Even though it seems quite remote all your needs are catered for and if you hire a car you are only a short drive from some very interesting and pretty towns and villages.’ Alison, BlackSmith member.
