If you want the greatest island-set love affair since Tom Hanks drew a face on a volleyball, a secluded meal in an OMG setting is essential.
20 Degres Sud in Mauritius has aphrodisiac beach-and-bay views as standard – but it pushes the boat out for loved-up meals (quite literally): Lady Lisbeth, the hotel’s 1930s sailboat (pictured above), has original fittings and a painstakingly restored teak cabin where couples can dine while gazing at Indian Ocean sunsets. Drinks are served on deck then, after gliding across the glittering bay, candles are lit and dinner is served.
Alternatively, on neighbouring Flat Island, lovebirds can roost in a tree-entwined 19th-century ruin. The Governor’s House (above) sits among the untamed foliage of the hotel’s private islet; it’s a dashingly dishevelled residence, with sand-dusted floors and trees growing within. Cosy up at a table for two for barbecued lobster tails and happily married wines under a sprinkling of stars for a surreally beautiful evening, or take your feast on the wild beach beyond.
BEST OF THE REST…
FREGATE ISLAND PRIVATE SEYCHELLES
Oceanside sashimi feasts, tasting menus in a treehouse, cocktails on Mont Signal (the island’s highest point), or tea served in a pavilion overlooking Glacis Serf (the sigh-worthy view seen above): Frégate Island Private adds a soupçon of showmanship to its already top-notch cuisine at every turn.
We wouldn’t turn down Baros’ beautiful beach-dining set-up, with flaming-torch-lit tables and waiters with ninja-like stealth; however, the Piano Deck dining experience in a turquoise lagoon (above) would turn us into shameful flirts. A secluded meal on a tide-revealed sandbank will rack up brownie points too.
PARROT CAY BY COMO TURKS & CAICOS
Parrot Cay by Como has enough romance-inspiring spots to please a philandering polygamist: veil-shaded pavilions on powder-soft sands, palm-thatched tiki huts set away from prying eyes, and private decks in photogenic flower-strewn spa cottages (above).
ANANTARA KIHAVAH VILLAS MALDIVES
Warning: lingering looks and straying hands may result from a beachside meal at Anantara Kihavah Villas, where a shore-set day-bed allows for post-dessert snuggling. The romance-enabling folk at this dine-anywhere resort work magic at the drop of a hat: just ask and staff will show up with candles, cutlery and silver cloches.
