With so many incredible websites and online resources out there today, winning the 2011 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Award for Best Website last night at the travel industry’s most credible awards was incredibly touching and a huge honour, and we want to thank everyone for your support.

Just under a decade ago, Mr & Mrs Smith was an idea. James Lohan and then-girlfriend Tamara Heber-Percy (now his Mrs Smith) felt there just wasn’t a guidebook for people who wanted somewhere stylish to stay, special places with substance, perfect for couples to enjoy their precious time off at. So we set about creating a guide that bridged the gap between pretty coffee-table book and practical information-laden reference.

In 2005, we decided to do the same all over again with the internet and give people a trusted online resource for boutique hotels. Through our Mr & Mrs Smith website, we launched a reliable booking service. To win Best Website in 2011 (after making it as a runner-up last year) blew us away.

The 14th annual Readers’ Travel Awards was held on Wednesday 31 August in the glorious Regency setting of the Royal Institution. We send our love to editor Sarah Miller who was much missed at the event, and we wish her and her family in New York the very best; we salute the entertaining Griff Rhys Jones, who stepped in and did a marvellous job of reading out the winners.

Heroes of the evening included lots of stars of the Smith hotel collection. Congratulations!
