STYLE MADE IN MELBOURNE
SETTING SCENIC CLARENDON STREET
WHY THIS WEEK?
Winter (June to August) in Melbourne may be a little cold and wet, but that makes it the perfect time to check out the best of the city’s art galleries and fashion finds and then warm up in one of its trendy cafes or designer bars. South Melbourne is, genuinely, a melting-pot of cultures, boasting a world’s worth of top-drawer dining options in easy reach of Coppersmith. A day with clear skies perfectly suits wine tours in the nearby Yarra Valley or Mornington Peninsula. Also, if you book by 31 July, you’ll get 25 per cent off stays of three nights or more. Let the long weekend begin…
OUR FAVOURITE BITS
After a day spent exploring Melbourne, head up to the roof terrace with a craft beer (the hotel bar keeps 18 brews on tap) or a bottle of wine recommended by GM Dave and enjoy the stunning panorama of the city from this intimate urban escape. Once you’ve soaked in the views and the booze, do not miss dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, where the playful menu will tempt you with every choice.
MR & MRS SMITH SAY…
‘Nearby Thomson Street was named after a former mayor and coppersmith, Ebeneezer Drummond Menzies Thomson. Just like Ebeneezer, Coppersmith champions artisan craftsmanship: Italian honed marble and steel polished with English beeswax in the bar; Ross Gardam and Oak & Elm furniture in rooms. Owner George was personally in charge of choosing all the bar’s glasses; he even weighed the steak knives to make sure they were ergonomically supreme. We could happily continue to sing this city hotel’s charms from the rooftop (deck), but to get the best idea of the place, befriend brilliant George, who will tell you the full story over a Somerset cider (or five).’ Read more here.
‘The staff could not do enough for you, very accommodating to our needs. The hotel was absolutely immaculate one of the cleanest well decorated hotels I have stayed in. I would highly recommend for anyone who wanted to stay outside the CBD but not lose that luxurious touch.’ Laura, Blacksmith, stayed 14 February 2015
