Style Fijian meets fashionista
Setting Pristine private isle
Why this week? Dolphin Island has an exclusive cultural offer for Smith members, valid for stays of three nights or more, from now until 31 December 2013. Book the Real Fiji Experience, and you can team an all-inclusive island escape with the chance to visit vibrant Rakiraki Market on the mainland, and learn how to make leis (flower garlands).
Our favourite bits As if having your own private-island playground wasn’t rockstar enough, the styling here is seriously sophisticated. The main entertaining bure (house) blends trad Fijian designs with smartly curated modern comforts. Guests dine out on the alfresco terrace or beside the tempting plunge pool. All rooms come with dreamy baths and outdoor showers, or for a romantic night à deux, go ‘glamping’ in the secluded Hilltop Sleep-out Bure. Partly open-air, but with enveloping mosquito nets, this lantern-lit, thatched boudoir comes with a fabulous four-poster. Is there a better way to wake up to ocean views?
Mr & Mrs Smith say… ‘Time passes lounging on the pristine, palm-fringed beach, taking frequent dips in the crystal-clear sea and flipping through magazines. The water is warm and the sand has that coral-whiteness you associate with Fiji, massaging and super-clean. No cigarette butts or bottle tops on this slice of paradise.
As the only two guests during our stay, the sense of luxury and utter serenity is even more intense. The sole sounds are birds, crickets, rustling palms and the occasional chop-chop of meals being prepped. No chatter, no music and no-one’s kids (my own included) fighting over inflatable pool toys. Heaven.’ Read fashion designer Karen Walker’s full review of Dolphin Island.
