Graham & Green creative director Jamie GrahamLove this room set from the Mr & Mrs Smith – At Home shoot? So do we.

To help you pull the new boutique-hotel look together, we gathered a hit list of the top five interiors trends for 2014 from Jamie Graham (right), creative director of interiors emporium Graham & Green, who helped us style the interiors for our fantastic new travel-inspired paint collection.

Here are his top trends to tap now…

Blues from the At Home Coast collection

The blank white canvas so beloved of architects in recent years is being superceded by stronger shades and bold colours, especially greens and blues – for our shoot, Jamie chose this intense blue colour from the marine-hued Coast collection, part of the At Home paint range.

Whether you go for an upcycled vintage piece or a one-off designer edition, says Jamie, the key to any successful interior is a statement piece with personality. The rattan headboard we used in the Smith shoot taps into next year’s love of all things a little unusual and offbeat. And look out for vintage canework as a trend – French antiques are also an inspiration.

Shunned for the past few seasons in favour of geometric patterns, the floral print is making a big comeback, according to Jamie, who’s sourced some great new florals for the new season. Channel the original arts and crafts guru William Morris and other turn-of-the-century movements with flashes of flower on cushions, throws and curtains. A bit of texture in the form of quilting or embroidery, felt, or a piece of folk art will get you extra trend points.

Interiors trends: mid-century | Odyssey bookshelfMODERN FIFTIES

The enduring popularity of Mid-century Modern shows no sign of abating. One of Jamie’s favourite styles, it’s confident and sits well in many settings. For the Smith shoot, vintage-feel details such as the vase of hydrangeas and bone picture frame provided the finishing touches, and lending the bold colour scheme a little warmth. Update the look for your home with Jamie’s new-season picks: a bold-framed chair, console or bookshelf from the Odyssey range, or a retro-style Scandinavian rocking chair.

Interiors trends: Kartell Sled chair5 KITSCH COLOUR POPS

The neon flashes that lit up last year’s catwalk shows have translated into decor trends with brightly hued furniture in clashing colours. Buy chairs in mismatched shades, or DIY with second-hand wooden chairs given a lick of paint. Jamie’s favourites from the trend include the sleek Sled chairs or Perspex-framed mirrors by Kartell; alternatively, the Waterfall chair with beech legs is a classic. Accent pieces look set to trend in 2014 include jewel-bright antler plaques and durable melamine tableware.
