Forget Paris? No fear. If there’s one place that never grows old, never loses its glamour, and never fails to pique our imagination, it’s France’s cosmopolitan capital. Sure, we’ve had some bad times here – adolescent art trips, mishaps in the red-light district, misguided love affairs, etc – but we’ve had some great times too: wine-splashed meals in flamboyant little bistros, hand-in-hand promenades along the banks of the Seine, and (of course) a few liaisons dangereuses in the city’s boutique boudoirs. Thank you, Paris. The least we can do to is nominate one of your ravishing retreats, Hôtel Daniel, as our latest hotel hero…

Setting Chic Champs-Elysées
Why this week? There’s a boutique hotel offer for Smith members to take advantage of: stay for two nights over a summer weekend, and enjoy free breakfast. The hotel has also just added two extra enticements: a well-travelled tea menu that includes loose-leaf teas from Mariage Frères, and a picnic service (€55 each, including drinks).
Our favourite bits The lavish decor: beautiful toile de Jouy, hand-painted wallpapers and Oriental carpets with a sea-green palette create a whimsical and elegant concoction of Chinoiserie. Opening each door is like flicking through the pages of a traveller’s diary. The exquisite interiors will have you dreaming of faraway places – but a quick glance outside brings you back to modern Paris, where the chic boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants of the Champs-Elysées await. On the subject of dining, gourmet Restaurant Daniel is worth staying in for – it offers a refined French/Med menu, Monday to Friday.
Mr & Mrs Smith say: ‘The Daniel’s interiors were created by London-based designer Tarfa Salam, and offer a sumptuous blaze of fanciful fabrics, oriental carpets and luxurious furnishings – a mood of tasteful exuberance that proves instantly uplifting. Talking of which, the lift that takes us to our fifth-floor Paris Suite, lined with colourful hand-painted wallpaper by de Gournay, has to be one of the most inviting in Europe…’

You say: ‘Apart from the beautiful rooms, helpful staff and great location, one of the best parts of this hotel is the breakfast – so make sure you get it included in your package. A beautiful pastry basket with real French butter, almost too rich hot chocolates and hot food made fresh to order – you won’t need lunch.’
