Last weekend, some of the core Smith crew set up stall at Kensington Olympia for the Condé Nast Traveller Luxury Travel Fair, where the great and the good gather to woo new travel audiences. As well as shouting about our fantastic new hotel guidebooks (France and South-East Asia), it was a great chance to remind visitors why we are the boutique hotel experts.
Representing Smith were PR and marketing duo Aline and Angie (pictured, far left and right respectively); marketing and membership manager Emma; and GoldSmith travel consultants Juliette (pictured centre), Dom, Anke and Katie.
They all enjoyed meeting people who were obsessed with travel: visitors to our stand – some loyal Smith devotees, some Smith virgins, and some expecting to meet Brad and Angelina <sigh> – were curious, intrepid, luxe-loving, well-travelled, knowledgable and chic. Meeting up with some of the hoteliers we work with – like the handsome and incredibly debonair Campa brothers, who own Ca Maria Adele in Venice – was also a thrill.
Smith-seekers were especially taken with the special cotton tote bags we’d made – perfect for filling with newly purchased half-price copies of our pre-launch South-East Asia guide, cleverly packaged gift cards and music compilation CDs (as well as brochures and other goodies garnered from the event).
In fact the weekend turned into a thoroughly enjoyable love-in, with Smith and new friends exchanging lots of fantastic tips on new destinations. Our knowledgable team of GoldSmith member travel consultants were also on hand, ready to be tested by your travel conundrums and inspire exciting trips for next year.
So what’s hot for 2011, we hear you say? Brazil, Cambodia and Croatia are all creating a stir on our collective horizons, with Uruguay and Argentina (especially Buenos Aires and Patagonia) hot on their heels. Other commonly-quizzed topics for our Smith24 team included most romantic honeymoon hotels, our soon-to-be-aired Smith hotel videos, and more details about our competition to win a stay at the lovely Lime Wood hotel in Hampshire.
Since we’re all about stylish design, insider travel knowledge and unique places to stay, we couldn’t possibly turn up in our casualwear, so we asked shabby-chic interiors store Brissi to ‘dress’ us for the occasion: the Mr & Mrs Smith stand was designed by Brissi stylist Paul using their vintage-feel contemporary furniture to resemble the sort of boutique hotel library/lounge we like to, well, lounge in. Preferably flicking through some beautifully shot, meticulously edited coffee-table travel tomes… (aren’t we modest).
The chairs pictured right are Silver Wrap Louis Armchairs with Storm Grey upholstery, £1,150; resting on the floor is a Silver London Mirror, £945; and hanging on the back wall is a New England Mirror, £240.
Brissi pieces pictured on the set pictured above include the white Barjac Writing Desk, £585, lit with Paris Crystal Table Lamp, £195; silver Soho Coffee Tables, £1,350 each; and Venezia Martini glasses, £8 each.
