La Samanna hotel in St MartinWe’re starting the new year as we mean to go on, with a host of heavenly hotels. This month, we’ve already enjoyed a Tuscan tryst: we were seduced by a cosmopolitan Chianti castle, Castello del Nero and also Villa Armena, a baroque villa near Siena.

In London, the witty Ampersand hotel in Kensington wowed us, but the weather left us seeking the sun… luckily, we found Domaine les Roullets — an historic homestay in Provence — and S’Hotelet de Santanyi, a minimal Mallorcan townhouse.

Down Mexico way, we unwound first at Maroma Resort & Spa on the Riviera Maya and then at breezy Baja beach retreat Capella Pedregal. Next up, the Caribbean called, so we jetted off to shore-hugging St Martin sanctuary La Samanna, and in the US we kicked back at nautical The Attwater in Newport.

Check in with us this time next month for our latest hotel discoveries…

Looks like a luxurious place to stay. I don’t think I can afford to be in such place when I travel to Italy this coming holidays. I don’t know but for me Bed & Breakfast will do. I’m a traveler on a budget and with those pictures I think they are really expensive.

  • Afternoon tea at the Ampersand is excellent.
