Soneva Kiri, Koh Kood, Thailand, Mr & Mrs Smith

Tucked away in a corner of Thailand not overrun by backpackers, Soneva Kiri sits on the edge of ocean-fringed jungle. It recently nabbed the Best for Families gong at the inaugural Smith Hotel Awards. With thrills to please hedonists, romantics, adventure-addicts and ankle-biters alike, this island escape has us daydreaming about dawdling there…

Soneva Kiri, Koh Kood, Thailand, Mr & Mrs SmithWhy this week? Looking to kick off the New Year on a stylish (and shoeless) foot? We can’t think of a more luxurious way than taking advantage of Soneva Kiri’s exclusive free half-board and daily spa offer. Excited? You should be: it’s valid for stays of seven nights or more until 31 March. Leave worthy resolutions behind and resolve to pop a bottle of bubbly, instead…

Our favourite bits… Where can we possibly start? Perhaps with the private beach tricked out with watersport facilities including kayaking, windsurfing and wakeboarding. If you fancy yourself a Federer or Wozniacki, there is a jungle-cradled tennis court to live out any Wimbledon-style whims. Have a head for heights? Treepod Dining mixes haute cuisine with a bird’s eye-view of the ancient rainforest; an acrobatic waiter will swing in on a zip-line to deliver your gourmet goodies and pre-selected wines. Your most difficult dilemma at Soneva Kiri is choosing where to start in So Chilled, the outdoor help-yourself ice-cream parlour with more than 60 flavours, or So Chocoholic, where fresh truffles line up next to pots of creamy mousse and sumptuous fondue.

Soneva Kiri, Koh Kood, Thailand, Mr & Mrs SmithMr & Mrs Smith say… ‘Just 27 huge villas are dotted across the vast, lush grounds. In keeping with the jungle surrounds, they have a rustic charm along with every possible luxury. Enormous garden-set private pools with day-beds and sunloungers surround each one, although it’s hard to drag yourself away from the romantic interiors – mosquito nets billow over king-size beds, the TV is hidden in a stack of old-school suitcases, and the open-air bathroom has a tub perfect for dipping à deux.’ Read the full anonymous review…

What you say…‘Soneva Kiri offers the absolute ultimate in relaxation and rejuvenation. We are a family of five with three boys aged five, eight and 10. The kids’ den offered calming activities for them after a full day of beach activity. The Six Senses spa offered amazing treatments and provided the best massage that we have ever had. The food was second to none and offered something for everyone. It covered different nationalities, children and gorgeous Thai food as well. The actual accommodation was luxury at its best. You could not possibly want for more at this glorious holiday destination.’
