Great news! We’ve unearthed our first boutique hotels in Sri Lanka, the tea-rich teardrop-shaped island nation languishing off the south-east coast of India. Here’s a little preview of our latest launches…

Seductive Sri Lanka

Rustic manor house The Wallawwa in Negombo makes a seductive first-night sojourn, with a soothing spa to ease any post-flight stress (plus it’s pretty handy for Colombo’s airport, too). Bustling colonial capital Colombo is a 45-minute drive away, where we found designer retreat Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo, a gourmet getaway in upscale Cinnamon Gardens.

A few hours’ drive south brings you to beach-blessed Bentota, where we reckon elegant hotel Paradise Road The Villa Bentota (above) makes a brilliant base for exploring the area’s grand gardens and wave-washed shores.

Maya boutique hotel, Tangalle

Mid-way along the south coast, sleepy Tangalle teams deserted beaches with turtle-watching and wildlife safaris. We fell for intimate manor Maya (above), set back in the paddy-pretty hinterland.

Next month, we’ll bring you more stylish Sri Lankan stays in lake-lapped Kandy and historic Galle, with tea-plantation treats inland to come. Look out for some new romantic retreats in Malaysia, too.
