In Austin, everything is served on tiny tortillas – everything that matters, that is. Texas’ capital city has an endless supply of tacos, and the best ones come with eggs and potatoes. They’re called breakfast tacos, but you can order them around the clock.

Here are five joints that will complete your breakfast-taco tour of ATX; even if you’re in town for a weekend, you’d be remiss not to hit them all.

Juan in a Million2300 East Cesar Chavez Street
Bring your appetite to Juan’s, because they’re generous with each order. The Don Juan is the obligatory order for your first visit; it’s a heaping portion of potatoes, eggs, bacon, and cheese, all for a cool five bucks. Don’t leave without saying hi to the real-life Juan; he’s usually floating around the restaurant, making sure you’re satisfied. (You will be.)

Tacodeli1500 Spyglass Drive
There are a few Tacodelis around town, but the local favourite is their Spyglass location, where the aesthetics match the flavor of Austin. Order the Otto taco – it’s the house special – with refried beans, avocado, bacon, and jack cheese, then douse it in their super spicy doña hot sauce… if you dare.

Torchy’s TacosTaco Truck at 1311 South First Street
Wherever you go in Austin, there’s a Torchy’s nearby. Once word got out, the local chain spread like hot sauce across the town. Do yourself a favour, though, and head to their taco truck on First Street; this is where you’ll get the most authentic Austin dining experience. Try the Wrangler taco: scrambled eggs, potatoes, smoked beef brisket, jack cheese, and tomatillo sauce.

Tyson’s is known for its unique offerings, like the crispy duck taco, or the Balls O’ Sunshine (which has deep-fried egg yolks, bacon, cheddar and hollandaise). The brave among us will satisfy two urges at once with the Gravy Crockett, a biscuits-and-gravy blend with bacon, served inside an egg-dipped tortilla. It was nice knowing you.

Veracruz All-NaturalTaco Truck at 1704 East Cesar Chavez Street
Veracruz takes a no-nonsense approach with fresh, natural ingredients, and they offer a straightforward selection, executed to perfection. Try their lean La Reyna taco, which includes egg whites, spinach, avocado and pico de gallo, or fall back on their fan-favourite migas taco on corn – a breakfast classic that they have somehow perfected.
