Even dawdlers deserve a beach escape. If you missed your chance to head south in the nippiest months of winter, hop on a plane to Miami tomorrow and say ‘sláinte’ to St. Patrick’s Day from your lounger by the pool at The Betsy hotel.

Why this week? The Florida forecast calls for seemingly endless 80-degree days. Get a head start on your summer tan with 20 per cent off last-minute stays through the end of March.

The Betsy hotel in Miami's South BeachOur favourite bits There are plenty of ways to make a splash at The Betsy. The pool is surrounded by sunloungers for prime people-watching, and just across the road is an idyllic stretch of white-sand beach. Once you’re fully bronzed, retreat to the bright  colonial-style rooms to prepare for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, BLT Steak, or a hot night on the lively South Beach strip.

Mr & Mrs Smith say… ‘The high-ceilinged ground floor houses the open-plan reception, restaurant and a lounge bar that’s perfect for sofa-flopping and caipirinha-sipping. (Cocktails are expertly mixed here.) This is a ceiling-fan–cooled heaven; it’s also a showcase for the hotel’s changing art exhibits. Across the road on South Beach, the Betsy commands its own strip of sand, replete with chaises, parasols, well-stocked bar and excellent service. Within moments Mr and Mrs Smith are lounging by the water, iced drink in hand. South Beach is a melting pot of people-watching: the gay, straight, young, old, toned and tubby all amble past. ’ Read more about the Betsy hotel, or find more hotels in Miami.

I have never stayed in The Betsy hotel but i will say that you have written very nice information about the hotel. I hope your reader will defiantly like it. I am staying in CA but next week I will travel NY, can you suggest me the budget hotel in NY (North End Av/Vesey St) if you don’t mind.

  • Hi Richard, the closest Manhattan hotel we’d recommend is Smyth Tribeca, a perfect city pad on West Broadway, under 10 minutes’ walk from your destination. If you really wanted to spoil yourself, try Tribeca’s Soho side, and bed down at Robert de Niro’s hotel, The Greenwich; otherwise, definitely pop in for dinner. A 12-minute walk (or three-minute cab ride) from Vesey St will serve up to-die-for Italian fare at the Greenwich’s restaurant, Locanda Verde.
