As founders of go-to lifestyle blog The New Potato, sisters Danielle and Laura Kosann have become authorities on what’s new and now in all things food, fashion, wellness and more. They recently lent their discerning minds to our judging panel for this year’s Mr & Mrs Smith Hotel Awards in the Most Spoiling Spa category, so we decided to ask the New York City locals about all things Big Apple.

Favourite place to stay Danielle got married at The Bowery Hotel, which is one of the coolest hotels in New York, so that spot will always hold a special place in our hearts. Also, it’s simply the best lobby for cocktails and people-watching, and the food at Gemma is not to be missed.

Jack's Wife Freda

Jack’s Wife Freda

You just landed. Where’s the first place you head? Either breakfast uptown at Café Sabarsky, a Mediterranean breakfast at Jack’s Wife Freda, or to Jeffrey’s Grocery for the Fresser Platter. We’re always ravenous after flying, and you’ve got to gear up for your full day in NYC.

Can’t-miss shopping The Line in SoHo, Fivestory on the Upper East Side, Jeffrey in the Meatpacking District, and there’s a new Barneys downtown you should probably be checking out stat…

Caffeine fix Bluestone Lane is always great for a to-go cup of coffee, as is Joe Coffee.

Aire Ancient Baths

Aire Ancient Baths

Where you go to unwind Aire Ancient Baths in Tribeca is a special spa experience that’s sure to relax you. That or a martini and some piano at Bemelman’s Bar uptown.

Favourite place for cocktail hour Bemelman’s Bar at the Carlyle, The Waverly Inn, Employees Only, Booker and Dax, The Library at the Public Theater, Maison Premiere… we could go on for a while.

Dinner destination Narrowing this down to one is overwhelming, but for one night only, we’d say go to Barbuto – it’s always been our favourite.

The NoMad

The NoMad Hotel

Best late-night spot It’s always fun to camp out at The NoMad.

Where you go to get cultured The new Whitney or The Met Breur are both great options. The Neue Galerie is always a favourite of ours, and the Strand bookstore or The Drama Book Shop will never get old, nor will the Gagosian Gallery bookstore if you’re a photography/art book/coffee table book fiend like us.

The place that makes you feel like a local The Campbell Apartment.
