New for March: Smith hotels in Corsica, Stockholm, Berlin, London, Nantucket, Hong Kong and more…

Fazenda Nova hotel in PortugalThis month, we explored the edenic eastern Algarve from our temporary home at quirky country house Fazenda Nova; after that, we lounged by the pool at Corsican beauty La Signoria. Once we managed to tear ourselves away from the sun, we were northward bound, off to hang out with a host of cool locals at Stockholm style hub Story Hotel Riddargatan and Berlin’s whimsical, zoo-view, former Danish embassy Das Stue (it’s Danish for ‘the living room’).

Meanwhile, back in the US, we decided it was time we got nautical in Nantucket. We found the perfect spots: preppy Harbour House and charming Chapman House. Down Mexico way, in Unesco-protected, heritage-packed San Miguel de Allende, we met the modern-art filled Hotel Matilda and intimate guesthouse L’Otel.

Next, we crossed the Pacific to find futuristic city slicker Ovolo 2 Arbuthnot Road in Hong Kong. Our last stop on this month’s global trip was Australia, where we embarked on an eco retreat at luxurious Paperbark Camp, then retreated to African-inspired sanctuary Sangoma Retreat.

After a decade of holidaying in lacklustre English country cottages, Mr & Mrs Smith Sub-editor Rachel Juarez-Carr's parents went wild in the early Nineties and whisked the family off to Norway; it was while sailing the fjords on a Ukrainian cruise ship that their 11-year-old daughter decided she loved travel. Once she completed her journalism degree at the University of Westminster, Rachel ran off to Los Angeles and crisscrossed the US for the next seven years, writing for two travel magazines and photographing everyone and everything. She’s now back in London, happy to be back shooting under grey skies and thrilled to be working with Smith's editorial team.
