It all began with a fabulous Portuguese farmhouse back in July. We’ve since raved about an A-list friendly  LA villa, a cosy Norfolk cottage and a traditional Thames-side inn. But we just can’t keep our hotel-loving minds still and now we’re  excited about — drum roll, please — a  boutique guesthouse in the Cotswolds’ capital, Cheltenham! Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the very lovely…

Thirty Two, Cotswolds

32-bedroom3Style Splendidly sumptuous townhouse

Setting Tree-lined Cheltenham square

Why this week? As everyone rushes off to the seaside, opt for some spa-town sophistication instead. You’ll get urban convenience in the Cotswolds countryside with a stay at Thirty Two. And lucky Smith members can get three nights for the price of two on the newly refurbished Suite at the moment.

Our favourite bits We love the Hidcote room for its Imperial Square-facing views and enchanting fireplaced bathroom. The SuiteThe Suite (the one with the special Smith offer) has a handmade copper bath tub and a working fireplace. Stanley, the resident Dalmatian, matches the design of the hotel as if he’s a fixture himself (but a well-groomed, wagging one). The breakfast table is communal so all guests can sit around and be social. And the owners run an interior-design company from the house, so you can pick out the pieces you’ve spied and buy them for yourself.

stanley5Mr & Mrs Smith say ‘Thirty Two towers over the main Imperial Square gardens in the heart of Cheltenham. Run by two interior designers known collectively at ‘the two Jonathans’, it’s been made to feel as though you’re visiting a friend’s home. Evidence of the pair’s trade is everywhere: the house is an impeccable blend of ancient and noughties furniture, original fittings and stylish stand‑out pieces collected from around the world. Like many visitors to Thirty Two, we’ve used the place as a stop‑off point on our trans‑Britain road trip to Cornwall. Next time, it may well be our final destination. After helping us with our bags as we depart, both Jonathans and Stanley stand on the step, waving and wagging goodbye. Like staying at a friend’s house… if only we had friends this stylish.’
