The tastemaking creative aspires to be a Dane, finds solace in the cinema, and has become an expert packer of ceramics

Lucy Williams is primarily known for having good taste. In fashion, firstly, as an OG digital creative, brand consultant, and frequent collaborator (her Missoma pieces are jewellery must-haves, season after season). But in interiors, too – if you haven’t signed up for her Remotely newsletter, an inbox-boosting array of tips, inspiration and ‘I need that in my life’ pieces, we highly recommend doing so.

We called round to her west London home to hear how travel shapes her taste (and to play with her dog, Finn)…

Quote to live by
‘Keep some room in your heart for the unimaginable’ – Mary Oliver.

Book that shaped you
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith.

Favourite museum/gallery
I didn’t grow up going to galleries and I remember the Pompidou in Paris was the first gallery I actually enjoyed going to so I’ll always have a soft spot for it.

Favourite artist
Right now it’s a toss up between Cassi Namoda and Antonia Showering.

Accent/language that turns you on
I grew up in the Midlands and am a sucker for a soft Manchester twang.

Favourite bar
I think the best place I’ve ever had a drink is in the swim-up bar under the stars at Deplar Farm in Iceland. A once in a lifetime moment.

Favourite cocktail
I’m very boring and normally just drink gin and tonic but I love a spicy margarita from time to time, especially when I’m in LA. I always make a beeline for the rooftop bar at the Surfrider in Malibu for one of theirs when I’m in town.

Comfort food
My mum’s fish pie or chilli chicken ramen from Tonkotsu in London.

Most memorable meal
Bush breakfasts cooked at the back of the Land Rover at dawn in Kenya. Magical. Oh, and my current favourite restaurant: Cantina in Sifnos. Amazing wood-fired, zero-waste food in a little open-air restaurant carved out of some rocks in a tiny cove. Amazing food, wine, and a setting I can’t stop raving about.

Worst holiday hangover
Barcelona about four weeks before the world shut down in 2020. Ouch.

Best vintage/antique find
I always head to Duo NYC in the East Village. They always have minimal, timeless vintage designer pieces and great vintage jeans. At home, I always find good bits at Sign of the Times in Chelsea for clothes and accessories and for interiors, I love Chiswick antiques market for little bits and pieces and the Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair that happens four times a year in Battersea.

Architecture that awes you
I’m always inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s signature mid century homes and have been lucky enough to shoot in a couple of them in Arizona and LA.

Interiors you envy
The curation of art and furniture at 8 Holland Street in London and Bath feels incredibly aspirational and liveable all at once which I always love. Oh, and Flamingo Estate in LA – I’m dying to visit.

Homewares you hunt while travelling
Anything and everything ceramic. I’ve become a bit of a pro at packing bowls and platters.

Design decade you feel at home in
The Nineties feels nostalgically comforting and chic to me. I was only little then which is probably why I’m always in love with the aesthetic of it all now.

Go-to spa treatment
Anything by Bamford at one of their outposts. I think they do the best speedy facial and I love how holistic and effective all their treatments are.

How do you unwind
Pilates, walking my dog, and watching far too many movies and TV shows. The cinema is my ultimate happy place when I’m stressed.

Your must-pack outfit
I feel like a great black leather jacket, white t-shirt and Levi’s 501s have seen my through most situations.

Most stylish place
I’m a total wannabe Dane and love Copenhagen. From fashion and interiors, to stores and restaurants, they just do it so well.

City you’d move to
Copenhagen. See above. I’ve always found it so friendly, creatively inspiring and love the lifestyle over there.

Strangest hotel experience
Our over-water bungalow in the Maldives caught fire and burnt down on our first night back in 2019. Thankfully everyone was totally fine but it was pretty wild at the time!

Best place you’ve ever swum
Greece is my ultimate swimming haven. We once took a scooter to the far west of Milos to a near deserted beach with dark, volcanic sand but the water was so clear, the perfect temperature and super salty so you could float so easily. It always feels incredibly restorative.

Best beach you’ve ever found
Princess Margaret Beach in Bequia comes straight to mind, and the beach at Amanwella in Sri Lanka is that perfect tropical but wild paradise with waves that leave you feeling pummelled but invigorated.

It’s not a holiday without…
Reading at least one novel.

Guilty pleasure
Crime podcasts and any TV show set in a high school or a beach house.

Pool or ocean
Beach, every time.

Define love in three words
Definitely worth it.
